Popis: We studied magnetic field penetration and losses in NbTi/Cu/CuNi microcomposites in a wide field range for samples with varying superconducting filament diameter and spacing between them. Two qualitatively different stages of magnetic field penetration into a composite were observed. The lower critical field Bcf1, of a filament defines the boundary between these stages. In fields lower than Bcf1, the critical state arises in a metal matrix which is superconducting due to the proximity effects. The critical state in the filaments is formed just after Bcf1. A jump-like increase of the losses typical for fine-filament composites was also observed near Bcf1. We propose a physical model for a self-consistent description of our experimental results. The expression for Bcf1, which is a strong function of the filament diameter, is derived.
