HO2 radicals in combustion reactions

Popis: D discussion of the role of HO 2 radicals in combustion reactions is presented. It is shown thatelementary reactions of HO 2 with H atoms to form H 2 O+O, H 2 +O 2 , and OH are of importance, and should not be neglected in the mechanism of H 2 oxidation and combustion, particularly near the explosion limits. Depending upon the flame conditions, HO 2 can behave as a chain terminator or propagator. Analysis of data on the effect of CO on H 2 /O 2 explosion limits and H 2 O 2 decompositionsuggests that the rate of the reaction HO 2 +CO=CO 2 OH would be too slow to play an important role in CO combustion.
