Popis:	Acidification of lakes, streams, and forests by atmospheric pollution is of widespread environmental concern, but in most cases recent acidification is difficult to demonstrate conclusively because historical records are lacking (Chap. 2). In the case of lakes, the absence of historical data can be overcome by palaeolimnological analyses, which allow the reconstruction of past environments from fossil remains in lake sediments.4,6
