Extended and thorough research has taken place over several years to investigate the possible involvement of popliteal lymph nodes in patients, who have developed metastatic cutaneous melanoma (CM) or non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) of the distal part of the lower extremities. The need for dissection of the affected popliteal lymph nodes has also been investigated thoroughly throughout the years.
