Popis: Ni3A1(110) has been found by Low Energy Ion Scattering (LEIS) to exhibit significantly different oxide growth behaviour over a range of temperatures from room temperature to 800° C. At room temperature the oxygen bond to the surface is weak while at elevated temperatures (up to 600° C) the oxygen forms a strong bond. Beyond 700°C no oxygen is detected on the surface and with increasing temperature under clean surface conditions the Ni signal increases at the expense of the Al signal indicating possible surface segregation of Ni.
