Popis: | The inclined thick dike extending infinitely in the direction of its dip, a common geometric approximation in geophysics, has been used in a variety of magnetic inversion techniques. However, in space techniques (Johnson, 1969, Won, 1981) and frequency techniques (Khurana et al., 1981) iterative computations are needed to obtain accurate estimates of the parameters of the source. Since rapid estimates are often needed, either nonograms (Gay, 1963) or analysis of symmetric and asymmetric components of the profile (Koulomzine et al., 1970) can be cost‐effective methods. A simplified inversion strategy employing the profile and its horizontal gradient is developed and described here as an effective alternative to these rapid methods of interpretation. Horizontal gradients have been used before (e.g., Stanley, 1977) for simplified interpretation of the magnetic profile over a geologic contact. As shown here, a similar strategy can be used in the case of an inclined thick dike of infinite depth extent. |
