Popis: Mexican burros, Equus asinus , infested with larvae of the screw-worm, Cochliomyia hominivorax (Conquered), were tested for 3 months in northern Veracruz, Mexico, as sites for oviposition by native screw-worm flies. They yielded only 1/10th as many egg masses as the sheep used as controls. The rapid proliferation of excessive granulation tissue around the infestations and the persistent hyperactivity of the burros who abraded their sites of infestation and fought off the flies prevented the collection of egg masses. The effects of excessive granulation tissue were overcome during the test, but the hyperactivity of the burros was not.
