Popis: The paper focuses on the key aspects of the concept of geothermal resources and provides their detailed description. The Russian potential in geothermal resources is considered, and the global geothermal energy use is also discussed. The particularly acute relevance of effective environmental protection from the negative impact of the existing industrial fuel and energy complex facilities is also emphasized. It is concluded that the projects on using geothermal energy are quite promising since Russia has a significant energy potential in geothermal resources (which energy potential is 10−12 times higher than the entire potential of the fossil fuels). Their effective use is capable of compensating a significant part of the hydrocarbon fuel consumed nowadays. A high ecological component of geothermal energy is also emphasized. In general, geothermal resources in Russia are characterized by almost universal distribution and cover 95% of the country’s area. Based on the potential for using geothermal resources, the authors propose a highly effective investment project to create an energy-biological complex. They also systematize theoretical, methodological, organizational, economic, and institutional mechanisms that contribute to the intensification of geothermal energy reproduction processes.
