Propagation and Absorption of Low-frequency Waves in a Magnetized Plasma Containing High-Z Impurities or Dust

Popis: The modification of the resonance absorption of Alfven waves due to the presence of charged dust grains in an edge plasma is considered. It is shown that a dissipative short–wavelength mode exists close to the resonant frequency because of the additional damping due to dust charging and electron–dust Coulomb collisions. Resonance absorption of a wave launched into a density gradient where resonance is encountered will occur via mode conversion into the dissipative mode with subsequent strong dissipation.
