This paper describes the development of an out of step relay using model based design (MBD) approach. Results of simulation testing on the model and target are also discussed. The predictive out of step algorithm is used to detect severe power swings and out of step conditions between different sections of a power system. To satisfy the functional specifications, the instability detection must be done in a rapid, reliable and safe way. The development of this device has been carried out in collaboration with Hydro-Quebec. The predictive out of step detection is realized by using fuzzy logic, which processes variables derived from the voltage and current on the transmission line. System level modeling and simulation has been done in Matlab / Simulink. Automated code generation has been used to produce the target software. Target implementation has been successful on the hardware platform. |
