Popis: Investigation of Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome: Pathophysiology, Treatment, and Burden In the United States, the recreational use of cannabis is legal in 11 states, and the medical use of cannabis is legal in 33 states. Colorado was the first state to experiment with legalized recreational marijuana in 2014. Within just a few years, there was a proliferation of marijuana shops, beginning in urban areas and spreading to bordering towns and rural areas thus making this drug easily accessible to the general public. There are now a wide variety of concentrates, tinctures, and edibles sold in many dispensaries, in addition to the dried plant itself and associated paraphernalia. The legalization of marijuana has reshaped healthcare in a way that worries many physicians. The number of adults who use marijuana has been increasing since legalization. Since recreational sales began in 2014, there is also a rise in people visiting emergency departments for marijuana-related conditions including severe vomiting, dehydration, and abdominal pain. This collection of gastrointestinal symptoms is known as cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS). This chapter looks at the pathophysiology and current treatment regimens for CHS, as well as the financial and physical impacts of this unfortunate condition due to long-term cannabis use.
