Popis: | The twice marginalized citizen exists when benefits or privileges are given to people belonging to a marginalized demographic—often based on race or ethnicity—but class divisions exist within that demographic, thus creating a situation where those in the upper echelons of the marginalized group benefit from that marginalized status to a greater degree than those in the lower socioeconomic classes. This paper looks at what I refer to as the ‘twice marginalized citizen’ in Alaska. In Alaska, Native people have Alaskan Native Corporations, tribal and Native health organizations, all of which have the stated goal of providing for Native people. The issue that exists is that the Native population is divided by socioeconomic class, and as such, the benefits that are accrued from the aforementioned organizations are not evenly distributed.
