Popis: A comparative investigation of the mechanism of interaction of carbon fibres containing phosphate and carboxyl groups, with epoxide resins, has been made by potentiometric titration, IR spectroscopy and electron microscopy. It is shown that when carbon fibres containing phosphate groups in their structure, in contrast to carbon fibres containing carboxyl groups, or graphite fibres, as mixed with the resin the latter becomes completely and irreversibly cured, without addition of ordinary hardeners. The use in composites of carbon fibre containing phosphate groups, as a simultaneous filler and hardener, is proposed.
