Popis: LYMPHOMATOSIS is a widespread disease which is characterized by multiple lymphoid tumors occurring in nearly all tissues of the domestic fowl. It is as yet questionable whether such tumors should be classified as infectious granuloma or neoplasms. It is generally accepted that the most common manifestations of this disease are associated with the formation of tumors of the viscera, nerves, or eyes and all of these forms may be found separately or collectively in the same bird. There remains some question as to whether or not the various types or forms of lymphomatosis are symptoms of a single disease and presumably caused by a single agent. In an attempt to simplify terminology (Second Collaborators’ Conference 1941), all neoplasms of the domestic fowl were included under a single classification and termed “avian leukosis complex.” Time alone will tell whether this all inclusive terminology advanced or retarded an understanding of tumor studies . . .
