Study of the structure of polyacenaphthylene and dehydropolyacenaphthylene by luminescence spectroscopy

Popis: An excimeric state has been discovered in polyacenaphthylene (PA), resulting from intermolecular interaction of chromophoric groups. It is shown that dehydropolyacenaphthylene (DPA) contains a range of conjugated blocks of different length. The emission maxima of each of the bands of the structural spectrum of the polymer have been assigned. Disappearance of the excimer emission on passing from PA to DPA indicates that profound changes occur in the structure of the polymer. It was found that dehydrogenation of PA occurs in blocks.
