As experiments are increasingly moving online (at accelerated pace due to the COVID pandemic), we want to validate the use of online webcam-based eye-tracking for behavioural research. This is the third of several effects that we aim to replicate throughout the entire project. In this study, participants will perform the visual world paradigm task, both online and in-lab. This within-subject design allows us to compare online webcam-based eye-tracking to high-end laboratory eye-tracking equipment. During the task, participants will see scenes containing four objects while a sentence is played. Original studies of the visual world paradigm found that when a spoken word in the sentence refers to an object in the scene, participants tend to direct their gaze towards that object. |
