Popis: The purpose of this study was to examine whether acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) are associated with acute cardiovascular (CV) events and all-cause mortality and whether these associations differ by the severity or number of AECOPD. This study also examined whether these associations differed by history of acute CV events, urbanicity, socio-economic status (SES), payor type, history of short-acting beta agonists (SABA), and history of respiratory infections. This study also examined the healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) and healthcare costs following an AECOPD. We descriptively examined whether these HCRU and costs differed by severity of the AECOPD, whether the patient had an acute CV event in the year after their AECOPD, and by COPD- and CV-related HCRU and costs.
