Popis: | In the course of degenerative spine disease, as a result of damage to the intervertebral discs and the formation of spondylophytes, i.e. the bone spurs, there is a possibility of narrowing of the intervertebral foramina—the openings for passage of the nerve structures of the spinal cord. Foramina lumen reduction causes compression of the spinal nerves, which can result in paralysis symptoms. It may be the cause of pain, which is currently one of the most common reasons for medical consultations. The aim is to experimentally verify the method of determining the changes in the surface area of the intervertebral foramina as a result of vertebral displacement. The material for the study consisted of computer models of two vertebrae, L2 and L3. The anatomical points forming intervertebral foramina were marked and connected them with a parametric curve—spline. The following step consisted of the simulation movement of one vertebra in relation to the other in the directions x, y, z. In order to examine the changes in the surface area of the intervertebral foramen as a result of vertebral movements, we conducted a simulation study consisting of the reduction of the distance between vertebrae. The range of motion was set to 4 mm, with a step of 0.2 mm. The goal of the research was achieved, aiming to verify the method of determining and monitoring changes in the surface area of intervertebral foramina. Thanks to the verification of the described method, it will be possible to develop it further, aiming to use it in treatment process of the degenerative lumbosacral spine disease. |
