Popis: The Oak Ridge National Laboratory Nuclear Desalination Program, under an agreement between the Office of Saline Water and the Atomic Energy Commission, serves both agencies as a technical laboratory for desalination studies, development, and engineering. Work supported by the AEC consists primarily of technical evaluation of various types of reactors for desalting applications, developing conceptual designs of reactors specifically for desalting plants, and developing components, systems and technology for large-scale and prototype reactors optimized for coupling with sea-water conversion plants. For the Office of Saline Water, functions are mostly concentrated on one portion of the overall OSW program—the development of evaporators. The program consists of four major categories of effort—design studies and evaluations, experimental development of advanced evaporators, component development, and assistance to the OSW staff.
