Popis: THE results of investigations of one phase of incubator hygiene at the Illinois Experiment Station suggest that fumigation of forced-air-draft incubators * may be of practical value in suppressing certain incubator disseminated diseases. In this report, preliminary results in fumigation studies in a Buckeye mammoth incubator † under favorable and unfavorable conditions are discussed. Reference is also made to comparable procedures, dispatched in commercially operated incubators of different types, which emphasize the importance of controlling certain factors that influence the germicidal value of the fumigant. Fumigation procedures in the Buckeye mammoth incubator efficiently destroyed such pathogenic bacteria as S. pullorum within reasonable time limits. The results, however, were noticeably influenced by the amount of fumigant as well as the environmental conditions which favored or hindered the germicidal efficiency of the fumigant. Efficient formalin fumigation of incubators, therefore, depends not only upon the amount of the germicide employed, but also upon the humidity . . .
