Popis: Good water quality is essential to sustain a healthy ecosystem while contributing to a strong social economic growth. Since the rise in global population and booming of industrial activities, the amount of waste water had increased drastically in both domestic and industry sectors. The use of magnetic field to treat water and waste water has been regarded as a sustainable and green technology. Designs incorporating permanent magnets of either low or high strength, as well as different geometries such as the common bar and ring shapes have been applied to potentially enhance water quality. This project investigated and compared the performances of permanent bar magnets and ring magnets on the changes of water properties through magnetic effect based on principle of reversed electric motor. Treatment of distilled water using permanent bar magnets induced greatest changes of water properties as compared to using permanent ring magnets, with pH increase of 0.08, conductivity increase of 0.06 µS/cm, dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration increase of 8.0 % saturation (0.66 mg/L), and oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) decrease of 16 mV. The experimental outcome also suggests that the technique of using magnetic effect has potential applications in future water and waste water treatment technologies.Good water quality is essential to sustain a healthy ecosystem while contributing to a strong social economic growth.
