The lucrative execution of nanotechnology in the development of novel pharmaceutical products addresses the ways to overcome the limitation of therapeutic agents like poor solubility, stability, and bioavailability of therapeutic agents. However, scarcity of economical and safe polymers with regulatory approval limits the broader usage of nanoparticles in clinics. Thus lipid-based nanoformulations are being developed for delivery of bioactives, nutraceuticals, and vaccines as well as in others areas of science. These lipid-based nanoformulations offer potential advantages like safety, stability, biocompatibility, and biodegradability along with ease of scalability over conventional colloidal carriers. This chapter provides an overview production, physicochemical characterization, storage, stability, various applications, and future prospects of solid lipid nanoparticles in the management of complex diseases. These systems are attracting the increased attention of researchers for use in modern pharmaceutics. |
