Retroperitoneal masses are commonly parenchymatous tumors, and rarely serous tumors. In this paper a case of retroperitoneal serous cyst presenting with an abdominal tumor is described. A 70-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of a right lateral abdominal tumor which was pointed out to be a retroperitoneal tumor by abdominal ultrasonic examination at elsewhere. On admission, a fist-sized, well-defined, and elastic hard tumor was palpated. Abdominal ultrasonography, CT, and MRI revealed a cystic lesion in the retroperitoneum. Gastrointestinal series and abdominal angiography showed no abnormalities. Under a diagnosis of retroperitoneal cyst, the cyst was extirpated. The extripated cyst was about 11cm in longer diameter and about 170g in weight, containing yellow transparent serous fluid. Histopathologically it was solitary cyst covered with columnar epithelia with a calcified part. No histological findings indicating the origin were found. |
