Popis: The education of Southern Sudanese refugees raises a series of problems which may be considered as educational, financial, administrative, and, unfortunately, political. Education in the Sudan before independence was characterized by dualism, whereby most of the education available in the South was rather different from that available in the rest of the country. This dualism is scarcely surprising in light of the approach of the British administrators to most of the Sudan’s problems. The number of refugees who have received any education in the Sudan has declined. Presumably the Islamization of the Sudanese educational system, the greater use of Arabic, and the continued warfare in the South contribute to educational problems change. A “solution” to the problem inherent in Sudanese refugee education is not attainable without a “solution” to the civil war itself. The “forgotten war” implied “forgotten refugees”, for whose general welfare and education very little was being done.
