Reaction of transition metal bis(malconitriledithiolato) complexes, Mmmt2−,−2 (M = Co, Ni, Cu, Rh) with methyl iodide

Popis: Mmnt 2− 2 (M = Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) complexes react with CH 3 I, both mnt ligands being methylated on all sulphur donor atoms. The methylation products decompose and free Me 2 mnt is formed. Kinetics of this reaction were followed. The rate determining step in methylation of first sulphur aom in the complex, the rate constants being of the order 10 −3 l mol −1 s −1 . Corresponding monoanions, Mmnt − 2 (M = Co, Ni, Cu) decompose only extremely slowly in the presence of CH 3 I. Rhmnt 2− 2 complex is rapidly oxidized by CH 3 I with no methylation of sulphur donor atoms.
