Popis: | Chronic liver disease is a major cause of mortality and morbidity, the incidence of which is increasing in the UK. The most common causes of liver disease are: alcohol, obesity and viral hepatitis—meaning much of the burden of liver disease is potentially preventable. Early diagnosis is essential to prevent the development of cirrhosis and life-threatening complications. The disease is often silent until advanced, and this can be challenging. Clinicians should have a low threshold to investigate for liver disease where risk factors are present. Close cooperation between primary and secondary care is essential to care for this complex group of patients, and provides opportunities for cost savings in addition to improved patient care. |
