Popis: The relative selectivity of hoop nets, trap nets, and gill nets was compared by sampling fish populations in Lake Nasworthy, Texas, during 1969. All 17 species caught with the four gears were caught with a combination of trap nets and either gill nets or small hoop nets alone. Based on correlation analysis using Kendall's tau, small hoop nets used in conjunction with gill nets were the most efficient paired gear to estimate species composition and relative abundance. Trap nets used with small hoop nets were most efficient to catch fish with uniform overall size-class representation. Results of this study should be useful in designing cost-effective fish sampling programs in areas where species composition is similar to that of Lake Nasworthy.
