In this chapter, we provide few insights about the Chagas disease, the main clinical evolution of the disease, and the current therapies used as the standard of care. Then, we introduce an overview of different nanotechnological strategies used to direct drugs and new molecules to fight Trypanosoma cruzi infections. We basically divided the nanomedicines available in the literature in lipid based and polymer based as the most investigated attempts, with general comments about in vitro activity, in vivo efficacy, and their major physicochemical aspects of the formulations. Finally, we highlighted the most recent clinical trials in the perspective to improve the nano-based strategies to overcome the main drawbacks of the available conventional treatments. |
