Popis:	Very small amounts of anionic synthetic detergents can be quickly estimated by a modification of the method originally employed by Jones. The effects of various interfering substances can usually be eliminated by a suitable choice of the volume ratio of aqueous and organic phases, and by the number of extractions. However, the effect of thiocyanate at concentrations greater than 5 p.p.m. cannot be wholly eliminated in this way, and two alternative methods of removal by chemical reaction are described. Sulphate and sulphonate detergents can be separately estimated by hydrolysing the sulphates in boiling acid solution and measuring the detergent content before and after treatment. More details of the method are given in the Appendix.
