Transportation behavior is often a reflection of choices and preferences, which could have significant impact on energy use as the choice of more sustainable transportation modes will lead to lower energy use and emission levels. Having a better understanding of transportation behavior will provide further insights on mode choice, travel patterns and even time of travel, as well as future changes in behavior under different policy scenarios and technology advancement. This chapter will focus on how transportation behavior and energy use in the United States have changed over time and will present commute mode choice and attitudes in a Californian case study. |
