The measurement of soil water by the gravimetric method is difficult and subject to errors. The method depends on sampling, transporting, storing, and repeated weighings which all entail inherent error. Other techniques such as the neutron probe have come into vogue because the gravimetric method is so laborious and time consuming. Water content determination by the gravimetric method means collecting and weighing a moist soil sample, removing the water by oven drying, and weighing the dry sample. |
