Popis:	In order to provide the best care to women and their future children, physicians and other clinicians should have a solid understanding of the women they treat as well as the most up-to-date information on preconceptional and prenatal nutrition practices. This paper, which consists of a demographic portrait of American women in their childbearing years in the United States, a comprehensive review of the recent scientific literature on preconceptional and prenatal nutrition, and a summary of expert recommendations, should provide clinically useful background in this regard. Topics covered include maternal weight gain, dietary recommendations, physical activity, strategies for preventing pre-eclampsia, managing gestational diabetes mellitus, and multiple gestation.
