Popis:	Gametogenesis and spawning are described for a population of the giant scallop, Placopecten magellanicus (Gmelin), in Port au Port Bay, Newfoundland. Histological changes accompanying the breeding cycle are discussed.A few individuals spawn in early summer (June) and also participate in the major spawning which takes place in autumn (September–October).
