Academic integrity is linked to the fight, in whatever form, against academic fraud. The balance of resources and strategies plays a critical role: the ability of organizations and their dedicated staff to detect and establish fraud is one of the major terms of the fight against it. Artificial intelligence seems to offer a vast field for the sophistication and professionalization of academic fraud practices. This paper focuses on a particular aspect of the challenge to the current balance: the anticipation of the potentialities offered by artificial intelligence in terms of text production without editorial work by the alleged author. Using the case of an artificial intelligence platform dedicated to the semi-automatic generation of « original » texts, the paper will attempt to analyze the efficiency and implications of such a tool as well as to propose prospective hypotheses regarding the evolution of the field of academic fraud. |
