Popis: | A short synthesis of a polycyclic photochromic fused-naphthopyran is described. Unlike common photochromic naphthopyrans, under UV irradiation a single colored photoisomer is produced which returns to the uncolored state, in the dark, much faster than the parent unfused naphthopyran. An uncolored polymeric film doped with this dye can be activated in 30 s with UV light and loses 90% of the coloration in 1 min, in the dark. The residual coloration observed in the thermal fading of the colored species, dispersed in the polymeric matrix, was reduced to 5% using this new photochromic fused-naphthopyran. |
