Popis: | Primary aldosteronism is a generic term for disorders in which chronic overproduction of aldosterone is independent of the renin-angiotensin system and results in hypertension. Estimates of the incidence of these disorders vary from 0.5 to 2.0 per cent of the hypertensive population, with a prevalence of 115,000 to 460,000 cases in the United States at present. With development and wide availability of radioimmunoassays for analysis of aldosterone and renin activity in plasma, it is possible to detect primary aldosteronism with certainty — easily and inexpensively. One need only demonstrate inappropriately raised blood aldosterone concentrations in the presence of low or . . . |
