Summary Seismic forward modeling is the basis of reverse time migration and full waveform inversion. However, modeling based on conventional coupled pseudo-acoustic wave equations not only exist SV-wave artifacts, also suffer from instability when epsilon is less than delta. In this paper, we start with the accurate phase velocity formula and develop a precise pure qP-wave governing equation by using the best approximation in quadratic norm. Several numerical examples demonstrate that the kinematics of the new wave equation is very close to coupled pseudo-acoustic wave equation and completely free from SV-wave artifacts. In addition, the wavefield generated by new wave equation is not only stable when epsilon is less than delta but also can be well adapted to complex VTI media. |
