Electron beam slowing-down and ionization in organic crystals

Popis: Theoretical analysis of electron-target interactions requires knowledge of the electron inelastic mean free paths and the stopping powers of the medium. We provide stopping parameters for electrons with energies from ≈100 eV up to 10 keV, and calculate the damage produced in a slab of organic material in terms of the density of inner-shell events that occur along the electron trajectory. Acceptable agreement with experimental damage data for some organic materials is found. A calculation of the rearrangement of the electron charge distribution in an organic molecule due to ionization allows a qualitative analysis of the damage effects expected under irradiation of different substances.
