Popis: A new type of solid state welding has been developed. In this method named "Twist compression welding", surface oxide films are effectively broken and removed from the interface because a pair of specimens are mutually twisted under compression load, resulting in the direct contact between metal matrices. It is found that the method can successfully be applied to the joining of commercial purity aluminum JIS A 1050 almost independent of the surface roughness as well as of the oxide film thickness.
