This paper presents a broadband antenna used for partial discharge (PD) detection and location in high-voltage equipment, the developed antenna can detect electromagnetic wave signals. To capture the discharge electromagnetic signals, the sensors frequency range should include the frequency range from 0.3-3GHz. We design a Sierpinski fractal antenna which has ultra-wideband characteristics that can be used in high-voltage equipment PD detection, the parameters of antenna are optimized for the frequency bandwidth and gain enhancement, the resonance frequency and bandwidth of the antenna is selected by resize the dimension and by changing different flare angles of the antenna, its fractal structure controls the multiband frequency feature with no significant changes on the radiation electromagnetic parameters. The antenna key radiation characteristics including antenna gain, radiation pattern, radiation impedance and return loss and are presented and the self-similar property is demonstrated, the computational results with several antenna dimensional and fractal stage parameters were performed and verified. The experiment is carried out in a high-voltage simulated discharge arrangement that is composed of a point-to-plane platform. The developed antenna has the matched characteristics and meet the required frequency band of the radiated electromagnetic wave. The experimental results of the application case show that this fractal antenna meet the requirements of the PD electromagnetic wave detection and location in the power system high-voltage apparatus. |
