Popis: Global Positioning System (GPS) is one type of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS); there are others. GLObal NAvigation Satellite System (GLONASS) has been operational for a considerable period of time. Galileo is being developed. Compass/BeiDou started out as a regional experimental system and is being extended to a GNSS. There are also some other regional satellite positioning systems. Some details are given of these satellite systems’ signals such as the frequency band that the signals transmit on; for example, Galileo uses E1 as compared the L1 of GPS. Some of the different ranging codes used are described, as are the segments that make up the satellite systems (ground, space, and user).
