Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) is a rare, dermal-based, superficial fibrohistiocytic tumor of the mesenchymal origin. Despite itshistopathological similarity to malignant fibrous histiocytoma, it is generally considered to be a tumor of intermediate malignantpotential. AFX usually presents as a rapidly growing nodule or ulcer and it has a relatively excellent prognosis. However, AFXshould be histopathologically differentiated from many tumors with variable grade of malignancy. Herein, we represent a case ofAFX occurring in a 69-year-old female with a clinico-pathologic review of the literature. |
