Popis: Grape cultivation and wine making have a tradition dating back for thousands of years in some regions of the world having proper or advantageous circumstances. The history of grape cultivation and wine making originates at the roots of the human history. According to historical records, grape cultivation and wine production was also well developed in the 15th century around Buda, the capital of Hungary. A lot of seeds, mainly grape seeds were found during an excavation in Buda castle in 2000. Our aim was to investigate and characterize these seed samples from 1400 AC and to compare them to present day grape samples to reveal connections between ancient and new varieties. Morphological investigations, in vitro cultures, DNA extractions from single seeds, and genetic characterization by molecular markers were per' formed.
