This chapter analyses the literature review of optimization proposals for waste management, which is concerned with finding cost-optimal routes for solid waste collection trucks. The approach of waste management is support for cities, innovating intelligent solutions in smart cities. This research attempts to demonstrate how optimization techniques can improve collection efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. This chapter attempts to serve as a roadmap of research literature produced in the field of waste management, mathematical modeling, and optimization of waste collection processes based on simulated annealing algorithm and a combination of neighborhood operators. More generally, this chapter focused on the mathematical description of the framework of waste management systems, including households as waste sources, treatment sites, collection processes, and a heuristic algorithm that use a greedy algorithm to initialization the route and simulated annealing that uses improvement phases of the route. |
