The evolution of mobile technology has increased the demand for multimedia services on portable devices. Multiple access technologies are being integrated to modern mobile devices, which provide an opportunity to the network operators to improve the quality of services they provide. To take the advantage of these opportunities, IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) standard was introduced to facilitate seamless mobility in a heterogeneous network ecosystem comprising of various IEEE 802 and cellular access technologies. In this paper we focus on design and implementation of MIH services as part of Stream over IP project funded by Department of IT, Ministry of Communication & IT, Govt of India. Currently, the services are implemented over Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies, enabling horizontal and vertical handovers across them. |
