Two subscale staged combustion test campaigns, funded by ESA, have been performed in cooperation between SNECMA (France) and ASTRIUM (Germany) to prepare a future launch ve hicle engine demonstrator. Gaseous hydrogen or gaseou s methane were used as fuels whereas liquid oxygen was the common oxidizer. On the preburner side, four tricoaxial injection elements were successfully tested (two per campaign), showing a good behavior in terms of stability, stratification, and general performance. Three different MCC configurations were tested in order to successively master the start-up sequence, characterize the heat flux all along the chamber axis, and to cover the highest operating points. Several MCC injection element design features were characterized on a wide operating domain. From the engine system point of view, the simulation model used to master the transients was well in line with the observed evolution of the main parameters. |
