Coal is still the second worldwide energy resource after oil and is used in various industrial fields such as power generation, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, urea synthesis, and other chemical processes. However, the utilization of coal also results in serious environmental pollution due to emissions of CO2, SOx, NOx, and other noxious compounds. As one of the clean coal technologies, coal gasification is being developed and installed. In this chapter, the coal gasification technologies in the research and development including highly efficient coal gasifiers, exergy recuperation technologies, CO2 recovery technologies, gas purification technologies, and their applications are introduced and discussed. |
