Popis: This work provides an historic context for military training activities at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), written to satisfy a part of National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) (Public Law 89-665; 54 U.S.C. 300101 et seq.) Section 106 and 110 responsibilities under Hazardous Toxic Radioactive Waste (HTRW) Contract No. W911KB-11-D-0001, Task Order 0017. Contained herein is an overview of World War II, Cold War, and late 20th to early 21st Century training activities for the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Army Air Corps/U.S. Air Force at JBER. This study provides a framework from which cultural resources personnel can evaluate the historical significance of training sites identified in field surveys during the Section 106 and Section 110 process. It is intended for use by cultural resources personnel at the installation level to determine whether military training sites found during field surveys at JBER are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). This will assist installation planners to remain in compliance with cultural resources laws and regulations, notably Section 106 of the NHPA, by providing and overview of 20th Century land-based training activities from which to evaluate the NRHP eligibility of training-related cultural resources found at JBER.
