Density of states of a Sierpinski gasket in two dimensions with anisotropic interactions

Popis: The density of states of a quadratic Hamiltonian, with some anisotropy in the interactions, on a Sierpinski gasket in two dimensions is calculated. It is shown that the isotropic gasket is special in that the spectrum is composed of two distinct parts which correspond to localised molecular modes and hierarchical modes respectively. When anisotropy is added, the localised molecular modes disappear and only the hierarchical states remain.
