Due to the volume and shape of large covered and semicovered stadia, acoustical and noise conditions are often poor. Sound system support requirements for the many types of events held in these stadia have become more rigorous due to increased audience demands and expectations and also because of the nature of event types held therein. The interface of a permanent, music quality, sound reinforcement system to the acoustical conditions of a multi‐use, professional football stadium is presented. Measurement and analysis of reverberation time, background noise levels, and spectra and echo conditions are presented along with their effects on the operation and audience acceptance of the sound system. Description of the system, including design details incorporated to maintain source illusion, provide nondelayed field/performance area monitoring and various other functional and performance particulars are presented. |
